U.S. wins the Ryder Cup in Brookline.

September 26, 1999

The American team beats Europe 14½-13½ when Justin Leonard sinks a 45-foot putt at The Country Club. In one of the great comebacks in U.S. sports history, the U.S. wins after falling behind 10-6 by winning 8 of the 12 singles matches on the final day. The European team would stage a similar comeback when the tournament is played in Illinois in 2012.
